Preservation value
At the request of the Ministry of Culture, the SHIP PRESERVATION FOUNDATION was established on 1 May 1986 by the Woodship Association, the National Museum and the Trade and Maritime Museum.
This gathered expertise in an area which, despite Denmark's rich maritime cultural history, had not received the fine-grained network of aid and support schemes known from building conservation on land. The purpose of the fund was formulated in section 3 of the foundation:
1) To contribute to the preservation and restoration of characteristic Danish vessels.
2) To preserve the ownership of such ships in Denmark.
Engine gala VANJA - with identification letters OYBK has status as a ship worthy of preservation from 9-11-2017 - Vanja is now an important part of the Danish cultural heritage and Danish wooden ships.
